I've had this pack forEVER...maybe 10 years. It's the best. It may last another 10 years. Enough said.
I will never hike in boots if I don't need to (winter hiking) ever again. I've been hiking in trail runners for a few years and my feet and much more comfortable than in boots. These Salomons have been my favorite. This is my third pair. The other two I own are non-GoreTex, but I figure with the amount of snow, streams, and rivers we will encounter on this trip, I'm going to need a little waterproofness.
Awesome bag. And by awesome, I mean less than 2 pounds, and compresses to the size of softball awesome. It's not the warmest, I was a little cold around 30 degrees with only t-shirt and underwear on, but once I put on my long johns and socks, I was warm again. I figure I'll put on all my clothes if a freak 0 degree storm comes in and I should survive.

great pack, love the ventilation for the back.  Had some problems with it hurting my hip bones though.  We bent/adjusted the frame a little and now it feels great

Really like these so far.  They are breaking in nicely and don't cause any blisters or discomfort.  The padding around the ankles is really nice and they are waaaay more comfortable than Dan's old boots (which we are burning soon).  They are a little heavy... but I guess that just means I will have stronger legs at the end of the 230 miles!
Tried out the bag up at San Gorgonio when it was ~30 degrees.  Loved it!  I stayed super warm through the night and my feet weren't even cold... which is usually a chronic condition for me.  They only problem is that it doesn't pack down that small.

Light, comfortable and it packs down to smaller than my Nalgene bottle!  This thing is amazing.  It was pretty expensive though, but I think it will be worth the extra $$$.  Wish the stuff sack was included...
